St. Francis Xavier Catholic School is seeking a School Counselor to support the academic, social, and emotional development of students in grades Pre-K2 – 7. This position works closely with students, families, teachers, and school leadership to foster a nurturing, supportive learning environment and to ensure students receive the guidance and structures needed to be successful in school.

The ideal candidate is collaborative, organized, and relational, with the ability to support students through both everyday challenges and more complex needs.

Role Summary

The School Counselor serves as a member of the school’s student support team, providing guidance and coordination of school-based supports for our students. This role focuses on student well-being, family partnership, and educational planning within a school setting. The counselor supports students through developmentally appropriate guidance and works collaboratively with teachers and parents to plan for continued growth and success.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Student Support
    • Provide age-appropriate guidance and support to elementary students
    • Assist students in developing skills related to self-regulation, peer relationships, problem-solving, and school readiness
    • Support students during times of transition or challenge
    • Promote a school culture of respect, belonging, and care for the whole child
       
  • Educational Planning & Collaboration
    • Serve as a primary point of contact between the school and families regarding student support needs
    • Develop, write, and maintain school-based support plans
    • Collaborate with teachers to identify student needs and implement classroom strategies
    • Participate in student support meetings and assist in coordinating follow-up actions
    • Support consistency of interventions across classrooms and grade levels
       
  • Communication & Professional Practice
    • Maintain clear, timely, and compassionate communication with parents, faculty, and administration
    • Maintain appropriate documentation in alignment with school and Archdiocesan expectations
    • Understand the scope and limits of school-based counseling and refer families to outside providers when appropriate
    • Work in close partnership with school leadership as part of a unified student support team

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a counseling-related field required; Master’s degree in School Counseling or a related field preferred
  • Experience working as a school counselor with elementary-aged children
  • Familiarity with school-based student support processes
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
  • Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education
